Celebrating “almost-accepted” verdict of our latest paper with the lab, to start off the Spring semester strong!!

04/25/22

We celebrated submitting a new preprint to bioRxiv today! This paper was produced among lots of ups & downs over these past 2 years. Three key people who contributed equally at different stages are Dr. Dana Layo-Carris, Mr. Mike Mykins and Mr. Logan Dunn. Ms. Sarah Perez and Ms. Alexandra McBryar, two undergraduate students, and Dr. Billy Lau also contributed significantly to this work.

07/27/21

Congratulations to Dr. Dana Layo-Carris for a successful defense of her dissertation! The first Ph.D from the Krishnan lab. So proud of all she has accomplished in research, teaching and mentoring. Dr. Layo-Carris will continue her academic journey as a postdoctoral scientist in Dr. Elizabeth Bhoj lab at CHOP/UPENN.

06/09/21

First time in-person lab meeting in 15 months! Was great to see all lab members in Mossman Building, by our favorite quote!

05/07/21

We gathered at Lakeshore Park to see each other in person, to celebrate our graduates, welcome new undergraduate students and our new BCMB graduate student, Logan Dunn. We had tasty catered Indian food and caught up with each other. So wonderful to see all after 1.5 years of virtual meetings and masks.

12/21/20

We submitted the second paper from our lab to biorxiv today! Parker Stevenson, a Senior undergraduate student and Dr. Devin Casenhiser, an Associate Professor at UTHSC are co-first authors. Due to COVID restrictions, we celebrated via Zoom. The write-up about the work can be found on this Twitter thread.

09/06/20

To celebrate our NIH R15 funding and Mike Mykins passing his BCMB preliminary exam, we had a socially-distanced picnic at the Lakeshore park with lab members and some committee members.

05/14/20

Congratulations to our graduating seniors – Brett Emery, Sami Ahmed, Mahircan Yagan, Daniel Kim, Wilson Skinner, Carter Sanders.  Due to COVID19 restrictions, we had an online celebration. We wish them all well in their future endeavors!

I am very excited that the somatosensory cortex PNN paper is now a reality. This is the first manuscript with data collected entirely from our lab and submitted as a preprint in bioRxiv !

THANK YOU to all the members in the past two years, for your dedication and hard work on this project. I am very proud of this paper, and of all of you for your persistence. We celebrated with breakfast at lab meeting!

December 3, 2018, Year End Party!

We had our annual lab party to celebrate the end of the semester and year. We played games, had good food, and got to know each other better. Our lab has grown quite a bit with undergraduate students this past Fall. Grateful for all the hard work, dedication and exciting lab atmosphere they bring.

Graduation party for Seniors, 2018: Izabella Nill Gomez and Delaney Fisher showing off their beautiful going-away presents – laminated, signed, 3-color mouse brain images.

December 2017, Year End Party!

We started a tradition of gathering at Dr. Krishnan’s home to celebrate the end of the year and reflect on our accomplishments and areas to work on. We played games, had good food, and got to know each other better.
